Empowering People Through Outdoor Education and Activities

The Friends of Camp Kreitenstein

In early Spring 2025, the Crossroads of America Council made the strategic decision to sell Camp Krietenstein, a beloved Scout camp with over 100 years of history, making it the second-longest operating Scout camp in the nation. While this decision aligned with the Council’s long-term plan, it meant the loss of a local facility that had served generations of Scouts through camping, hiking, swimming, rank advancement, and personal growth.

Two remarkable things happened in response:

  1. A  Dedicated Benefactor
An individual with deep ties to Camp Krietenstein stepped forward and purchased the property with the sole purpose of preserving its mission.   This “angel” committed to making critical infrastructure improvements and continuing to host programs and activities that support Scouting and youth development.
  2. Friends of Camp Krietenstein

A passionate group of supporters formed the Friends of Camp Krietenstein Organization. Their mission is twofold:

  • Provide programming and financial support for activities that advance Scouting’s   values.
  • Raise funds to purchase the camp and ensure its legacy endures—serving not only       Scouts but also offering educational and recreational opportunities for youth across the Wabash Valley.

Your gift to our Capital Campaign will fund essential facility improvements and expand programs that inspire leadership, character, and growth for generations to come.

Why We Use "Zeffy" and What You Should Know

Zeffy is a fund raising management platform used by many not for profit interests and is  distinct because it allows us to receive 100% of your donation; no transaction or platform fees are deducted by Zeffy to support its operations.

Here’s how it works:

  • Zeffy covers all credit card processing fees (normally 2–4%).
  • To keep their platform free for nonprofits, Zeffy relies on optional tips from donors.
  • When donating, you’ll see a suggested tip amount, but it’s completely optional. You can adjust it or set it to $0 before completing your gift.

Your tip helps Zeffy continue offering free fundraising tools and cover credit card fees so every dollar of your donation supports our Scouts. Whether you tip or not, your generosity makes a difference.

Two Donation Tracks

Our Capital Campaign allows you to direct your gift in one of two ways.  The first is to a fund specifically for the purchase of the Camp Krietenstein property, now in the hands of a dedicated Scouter who is fully cooperating with us as we work for toward the purchase.  The second fund is managed by the Friends of Camp Krietenstein Board of Directors that can be used in a variety of ways to support programs, equipment purchases, camperships, and even transfer money to the ultimate purchase of the Camp itself.
