Wabash Valley District of the Crossroads of America Council officially kicked off its 2026 New Membership Drive on July 13, and now is the perfect time for every pack, troop, crew, and ship to reach out to families in their community. Whether you're introducing an elementary school student to the adventure of Cub Scouting, helping a teenager discover leadership through Scouts BSA, or inviting older youth to explore the opportunities found in Venturing or Sea Scouting, every new member strengthens the future of Scouting. At the same time, every youth member needs caring adults who are willing to mentor, encourage, and lead. Recruiting enthusiastic volunteers is just as important as welcoming new Scouts.
You don't have to do it alone. District Executive Doug Band is ready to help your unit succeed with ideas, coaching, and practical resources that make recruiting easier. He can provide giveaways, yard signs, promotional materials, and guidance tailored to your unit's needs.
If you're ready to grow your membership, or simply aren't sure where to begin, please reach out to Doug at doug.band@scouting.org. Every new Scout who joins today helps ensure that the values, adventures, and life-changing experiences of Scouting continue for generations to come.
Together, we can keep Scouting strong, vibrant, and growing throughout the Wabash Valley.
To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The vision of Scouting America is to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law

Friends of Scouting (FOS) is the annual giving campaign organized by local Scouting America Councils to sustain Scouting programs and resources. It typically runs from late Fall through early Spring and represents one of the largest sources of funding for Councils. Donations make it possible to carry out the Scouting
Scouting is a worldwide movement dedicated to helping young people develop character, leadership, and practical life skills through outdoor activities, community service, and teamwork. It emphasizes values such as integrity, respect, and responsibility, encouraging youth to learn by doing and to grow into active, engaged citizens.
Within Scouting, there are several age-based groups that provide programs tailored to different stages of development:
Together, these groups create a progression of experiences that help youth build confidence, learn teamwork, and prepare for life beyond Scouting.
Scouting is organized in a tiered system that ensures strong leadership and support at every level, from national oversight to local community engagement.
This structure allows Scouting to maintain a unified vision while delivering personalized support to youth and volunteers in every community.
Adult volunteers are the backbone of Scouting. They provide the leadership, guidance, and support that make the program possible. From organizing activities and mentoring youth to ensuring safety and fostering personal growth, volunteers create an environment where young people can thrive. Their involvement brings experience, stability, and a sense of community, helping Scouts develop skills, confidence, and values that last a lifetime. Without dedicated adults, Scouting cannot deliver the rich, meaningful experiences that shape future leaders.
