Opportunities for Adult Engagement in Scouting

We Need You

Scouting not only needs youth members, but it also requires adults to support and guide their Scouting experience. Adults play a vital role in maintaining connections with others who share Scouting ideals, regardless of their age. Whether you're a Scouting alumni or looking to become a merit badge counselor, we recognize that time is a precious resource. That’s why we offer numerous volunteer opportunities that align with your skills and talents while accommodating your busy and demanding schedule. Explore the various options available to you to rejoin Scouting or participate for the first time.

Join The Scouting Alumni Association

No matter how you connected to Scouting before, you’re an alum now! Want to reconnect with the people, places, and adventures that make Scouting exceptional? As a member of Scouting Alumni, you can explore abundant volunteer opportunities, support Scouting, and even become a merit badge counselor to help youth grow into their very best selves for generations to come. Learn more about us at: https://scoutingalumni.org/

Become a Member of the National Eagle Scout Association

"Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle." As a member of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), you not only support the mission, values, and time-honored traditions of Scouting in your community and our country, but also connect with fellow scouting alumni. By joining NESA today, you can explore volunteer opportunities and give your Eagle pride a purpose; the future is in your hands.  https://nesa.org/

Join The Order of the Arrow Alumni Alliance

Were you inducted into the Order of the Arrow (OA) as a youth or even an adult, but have not been active for a while? We would love for you to become re-affiliated with us! The OA is Scouting’s National Honor Society. As an essential part of Scouting America, the OA provides peer-led advanced leadership experiences that foster lifelong bonds through service and enrich each member’s Scouting journey and beyond in their lives. OA members are characterized by the fellowship they share, their service to others, their commitment to personal growth, and their self-driven initiative to make a difference in their community. Additionally, many scouting alumni contribute to this mission by becoming merit badge counselors, creating valuable volunteer opportunities for new Scouts.  https://oa-scouting.org/alliance

Become a Merit Badge Counselor

A fantastic way to engage with Scouting, especially for scouting alumni looking for volunteer opportunities, is to become a Merit Badge Counselor. Your unique skill set and knowledge can significantly aid Scouts in their learning journey, helping them advance in rank and possibly achieve one of the most iconic aspirations for youth in this country: becoming an Eagle Scout. Volunteer with Us at Various Levels in Scouting

Scouting is a youth-led, youth-run program, but the youth must be trained to be leaders. Adult role models in Scouting provide an ideal learning experience for all youth. Every adult volunteer, including merit badge counselors, has something valuable to offer. On a typical weekend campout, Scouts might work with an adult volunteer who teaches the Fishing merit badge and with a Scout mom to learn orienteering, go on a 5-mile hike with another adult leader, and end the day learning how to clean and cook fresh fish from someone else.

The advantages of Scouting are not limited to youth. Adults, including Scouting alumni, also develop leadership and physical skills with every training experience.

Volunteers learn, too. Volunteers spend a significant amount of time to ensure the success of Scouting in their communities. The average Scout volunteer gives 20 hours of service each month, and 96 percent of volunteers say they would recommend volunteering for Scouting America to other adults. In fact, volunteers believe their time invested with Scouting America helps them be:

A better citizen

A better parent

A better manager

A better employee

More patient and tolerant of others

More open to new ideas and opinions

We need you to provide the direction, coaching, and training that empowers today’s youth with the skills they will need to lead tomorrow. Explore the many volunteer opportunities available to make a difference in your community.  https://www.scouting.org/about/volunteer/
